The staff of Triangle United is committed to helping the community in many ways.  During 2007-2008, some of the community activities we participated with included the following:

• After School Program at Hargreaves Community Center
• After School Program at Forest View Elementary School
• Organized volunteers for the Children’s Fund of NC Run for the Kids
• Assisted with the Chapel Hill Service League Christmas House

In 2008-2009 we will be increasing the number of in-school and after school programs we are involved with.  Additionally Triangle United has partnered with the Special Olympics of NC, and we have also pursued other opportunities to support local fitness and charitable events with volunteers. The additional activities include:

• Ran a soccer clinic w/ Special Olympics of NC, with 5 TU teams providing the volunteer support
• Organized volunteers for the Triangle Heart Walk
• Organizing volunteers for Girls on the Run’s Reindeer Romp
• Organizing volunteers for the Southern Village 5k

We feel these volunteer opportunities are excellent chances to develop a greater appreciation for community service for Triangle United players, and look forward to providing increasing numbers of volunteer activities throughout the year.

The 4th Annual Triangle United golf tournament was held Friday, October 17th at the Preserve at Jordan Lake. All foursomes played on through some rain and temperatures dropping in the afternoon. But spirits were high as the foursomes had fun for a good cause - raising $ for Triangle United community outreach. Sponsors and golfers once again stepped forward and drove confidently towards the goal of helping TU help local communities.

Triangle United partnered with Special Olympics NC to host a soccer clinic on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 @ 2pm. This clinic was held at UNC’s Finley fields.

Triangle United players (14 yrs & older) ran the clinic, with supervision from TU staff and Special Olympics staff. It was a special experience.

The Triangle Heart Walk brings the Triangle community together to raise funds to fight the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers (heart disease and stroke) which are both associated with obesity. Triangle United has teamed up with local walks/runs that help to prevent obesity especially in childhood.
