Durham Public Schools and Triangle United have partnered to help with the school districts Wellness Wednesday Program. Durham Public Schools is home to over 30,000 students. TU staff members Ricky Santibanez (DPS Class of 2004) and Sonny Mukungu (DPS Class of 2010) put together weekly at-home training sessions for players of the Durham School District. This partnership began in mid-August and will continue as long as students are doing class online.
Here is what the DPS website says about their Wellness Wednesday Program
Wednesdays in virtual school is a time devoted to tending to the social and emotional needs of all students. This could look different for everyone. Each week, we will provide a variety of opportunities and in the weeks to come, some of those will include live sessions with our student support team
“Durham Public Schools has dedicated Wellness Wednesday as a day for staff, students, and community to focus on their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. As part of Wellness Wednesday, DPS has partnered with local organizations to provide weekly on demand content. Triangle United is among our lead partners, providing weekly soccer lessons in English and Spanish. These video lessons are a joyful part of the week for hundreds of students who use these videos as part of their plan to stay active and well on Wednesdays”.
