After tying their first two games of the regular season, the 91 Boys Silver team went on a seven game win streak to claim the division title. With their divisional title, the team has earned promotion to the Premier division next year, the first Silver team in the club’s short history to accomplish this feat.
Under the direction of coach Marco Genee the Triangle United 91 boys Silver team went undefeated through league and state cup play this past spring. This run of success earned the team promotion to the state’s Premier division next spring and a state cup championship. The team’s cup win gave them the right to represent North Carolina in Georgia three weeks later to participate in the Region III President’s Cup championship. Relying again on their strong defense and goalkeeper Kyle Stuart the boys won their divsion in group play and advanced to a semi-final matchup with the Solar Gold team from Texas. With the game scoreless and three minutes left to play in overtime a thunderstorm brought a 90 minute delay. When the game restarted the outcome was decided quickly as Matt Gallagher scored to move the Triangle United boys into the Regional championship game against the Texans FC. The team’s magical run came to an end in the title game as the Texan’s held on late for a 2-1 victory. The team was not done for the summer however as they advanced to the US Club National Championships in Virginia Beach. The team finished group play with a record of 1-1-1 and finally hung up their cleats for a well earned rest.
