About the GA Talent Id:

"Our mission is to highlight, identify, and improve top talent competing in the Girls Academy, while exposing players to opportunities to succeed at the highest level. To accomplish this, each conference will host an invite-only ID event held over one weekend per year. From there, stand-out players at Regional Talent ID events may be selected to participate in National Talent ID events. The club is moving into its 5th year of futsal this winter. Futsal is played with 4 field players and 1 goalkeeper and uses a no bounce ball.

There will be multiple divisions (Recreational to Competitive) for 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 15-19U. Teams are set up as either Female, Coed, or all Boys.

New Goalkeeper Director

Chapel Hill, NC (September 30, 2024),

Triangle United is to pleased to announce the hiring of Kyle Johnston, the club’s new Goalkeeping Director. Kyle is currently the Duke Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper coach and will continue in that role, while also serving in this role for the club. Kyle will assume this role beginning October 1 ^st .

Kyle will oversee all aspects of the Triangle United Goalkeeper program, including but not limited to the development of a GK Game Model, a periodization plan for development, oversee and work with the goalkeeper trainers, communicate with all goalkeepers, and help to develop sessions that fit within the overall club’s game model. Kyle will also be on the field with our goalkeepers not only in a training environment, but also evaluating them during training and games to help in their overall development.

This is Kyle’s second year with the club, having served as a goalkeeper trainer for the club when he moved to North Carolina in 2023. The club is very excited about bringing on Kyle in this capacity due to his experience and understanding of the position. More information will from the club and Kyle will be sent out to the club’s goalkeepers shortly.

Prior to joining the Blue Devils, Kyle worked at UNC, as well as the College of Charleston as an assistant coach. He was also the Goalkeeper Director for the South Carolina Surf youth club while in Charleston. As a student-athlete, Johnston was a two-time captain for Sewanee, a four-time All-SAA honoree and was named to the All-South Region Third Team selection following his senior campaign.

Following his graduation from Sewanee in 2019 with a degree in International and Global Studies, he went on to play in the United Soccer League for Carolina Dynamo and Houston FC before entering the coaching ranks. In 2024, Johnston earned his Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches Association.

DPL Teams Find Success in Dallas

2010 Summit Champs, 2007 Summit Finalists

Over the weekend of March 7-10, our 2011 (13U) - 2007 (17U) traveled to Dallas, TX to compete with the best of the best in the DPL League. Over the course of the very rainy/stormy weekend, the 2010 girls captured the Summit Crown, pitting them as the top team in DPL at the 2010 age group. The 2007 girls lost in the Summit Finals, but showed they are still one of the top teams in the DPL. The 2011's won their only game they played due to weather, while the 2009s and 2008s both finished a respectable 2-1. Congrats to all teams and best of luck the remainder of the spring season!

Former TU Coach Passes Away

It was with great sadness to share that longtime coach Grant Underhill, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 31st, 2023. Grant was one of the original coaches for Triangle United when we began back in the fall of 2005. Grant's passion was working with the Challenge/Select level, so much that at one point he was the NCYSA Board of Directors Challenge Liaison. Grant loved working with his players and being able to impact their lives like they did his. He will always be remembered for his long collared shirts under his TU t-shirts and his entertaining personality. You will be missed Coach Underhill!

4 Players Chosen to Travel to London with DPL

Will play vs. Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Reading

Raquel Wall (2010), Hazel Kaplan (2009), Anna Morris (2008), and Kaydence Bergman (2007) were all selected to travel to London, England, to represent the DPL. The players were chosen from the All-Star games that took place during the DPL National Finals this past June in Cincinnati, Oh. 16 players were chosen per age group to travel to London the week of November 19th-26th.

The players will take in a Women's Professional game (West Ham United vs. Aston Villa), a tour of Wembley Stadium, a walking tour of Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Downing Street, etc...as well play games vs. Reading FC, Aston Villa FC, and finishing up with Chelsea FC (current home to the new US Women's National Team Coach).

Best of luck to the girls on this great experience. Enjoy your time in England!

The Triangle Training Academy will begin its 3rd year of programming this winter. We will offer training sessions for players who play recreational soccer, all the way through classic.

The program will begin the week of November 27th and run through February 4th (if a make up date is needed, we will extend 1 week or add a date during the time block) . To view when the different levels of play have their training, please look below (we do ask that players register for the level of play they are currently playing, as the training sessions will be geared towards that level). 2006 (17U) NPL Fall in NPL National Championship

Lose 0-1 to Minneapolis United

The 2006 NPL Boys quest to become the 1st NPL team from the club to win a National Championship, fell short on Wednesday, July 12th to Minneapolis United (MN) 0-1. Along the way, the boys went 2-0-1 in group play, then beat Sockers FC in the Quarter-Finals (IL) 2-1, beat AFC Academy (CA) 2-0, before eventually losing 0-1 in the Finals. Great year boys!

2010 Girls DPL Finish 3rd at DPL Nationals

Congratulations to the 2010 Girls DPL team for finishing 3rd at DPL Nationals, over the week of June 27 - July 2nd in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Round Robin vs. Liverpool FC IA SoCal (CA): 3-2 Win

Round Robin vs. NEFC (MA): 1-2 Loss (team was through to semis prior to this game)

Semi-Finals vs. Sunrise SC Sting (FL): 4-6 Loss (game went into Overtime)

3rd Place Game vs. Rhode Island Surf (RI): 2-1 Win

The team had a lot of great accomplishments over the past year including, but not limited to the following:

1st Place, NCYSA Spring Elite East Division (went undefeated)
NCYSA State Cup Champions (US Youth Soccer Cup)

Wins Inaugural Event in Tampa, FL

The 2007 Girls DPL team claimed the inaugural Summit Championship in Tampa, FL over the weekend of March 16-19. Along the way, they defeated some top teams from around the Country. They beat West Florida Flames (FL) 8-0, City SC San Diego (CA) 1-0, La Roca FC (UT) 2-1, and SSA (GA) 3-0. Congratulations on a job well done! We are all very proud of how you represent the club on and off the field. Keep it up! Now, on to Nationals...

2006 Boys Gold Win South Atlantic NPL Playoffs

Heading to Denver, CO for National Championship in July

The 2006 Gold boys captured their 1st US Club NPL South Atlantic championship by going 3-0 over the weekend of January 14-16 in Atlanta, GA. They scored 9 goals while only allowing 1. They defeated North Alabama SC 2-0, Wake FC North 4-1, and Southern Soccer Academy 3-0. Well done boys!

During the weekend of January 14-16 in Atlanta, GA, the NPL South Atlantic will conduct their playoffs. Teams that advance from this event, will represent the South Atlantic NPL in Denver, Colorado at Nationals in July 6-12 .

The 2010, 2006, and 2005/04 are taking part in the Playoff portion of the event, while the 2009, 2008, and 2007 are participating in the Showcase event in Georgia.

In Palm Beach for DPL Winter Showcase January 5-8

Our 15-19 Girls DPL teams will kick off 2023 with the DPL FL National Showcase held in Palm Beach Gardens between Jan 5-8.

Many of the Top Clubs in the DPL’s National Rankings are in attendance with some of the top tier teams of those clubs battling in the uber competitive top flights of competition.

This weekend’s event will feature 230 teams from the U15, U16, U17 and U18/19 age groups. The DPL in partnership with VEO will capture every game played at the event make these games available after upload free to participating players via the VEO Clubhouse link

DPL Girls Have Strong Fall Season

08G and 07G Qualify for DPL Nationals

As the season wraps up for the 15-19 Girls DPL teams, the 2008 and 2007 girls have qualified for DPL Nationals, which are set to take place in June in Cincinnati, OH. The 2008s finished in 4th, the 2007s in 2nd, and the 2006's finished 5th, just 1 place back from qualifying for Nationals.

The 2010G finished atop their group for the fall (going 8-0-2 and only conceding 4 goals) and the 2009G are just one place back in the standings from qualifying for Nationals, with the spring season still to come. Well done ladies!

3 TU Players Selected to MLS NEXT BEST OF

The players represented the EAST

Players from the MLS NEXT Fest showcase are eligible to be selected for MLS NEXT Fest Best Of matches. Selected players will compete against one another across four games scheduled from Dec. 4-6. During these games, there were no other games taking place in their age group, so a lot of college, pro, and national team scouts were watching the players (in addition to a lot of players and parents from other teams).

Will Casey (19U), Arden Tobolski (19U), and Anuar Contreras (16U) all made the MLS NEXT FEST Best of matches. A total of 44 players were chosen per age group to participate. Congratulations boys on your selection!

TU Staff Attend MLS NEXT Culture Coordinator Program

November 30 - December 1

Bobo Bokole (DPL & Girls Classic Director) and Luis Satorra (MLS NEXT Academy Director & Boys Classic Director) traveled to Indio, California to take part in the MLS NEXT Culture Coordinator Program, as part of the MLS NEXT FEST taking place December 2-8.

"MLS NEXT Culture Coordinators will be responsible for providing training to all players with the goal of building an inclusive, safe and supportive club culture. They will serve as the point of contact for "cultural" issues at the club. Training topics include racial and ethnic discrimination, gender related harassment, bullying behaviors, and emotional and physical misconduct".

The club felt by having both our Girls and Boys Directors at this program, will allow the club to continue to move forward by providing that safe and supportive club culture. Luis and Bobo will begin to work not only with our staff, but also begin to work with our players to have a better understanding of how to create this culture.

MLS NEXT 14s, 16s, & 19s Head to California to Participate

The 14U, 16U, and 19U teams will head to Indio, California (Empire Polo Grounds) to take part in the MLS NEXT FEST. The seven-day event will feature over 400 top youth teams from the United States and Canada competing in over 600 matches at the Empire Polo Ground in Indio, California from Dec. 2 to Dec.8. Players will have the opportunity showcase their talent for college, national team, and professional scouts and coaches.

The Triangle Training Academy registration is now open. All levels of players are open to register ( players will register based on current level of play ). This training is ideal for all players who are looking to improve their technical skills, first touch, ability to receive and pass with all surfaces of the foot, dribbling, 1v1 situations. This training will help the player to be more successful on the field in practices and games

Durham Inner City Program

Clubs 14th Year Working with the DBYAL

Triangle United will once again work with the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League (DBYAL) to provide free soccer instruction for the program. The club has worked with the DBYAL since 2006 (minus 2020 and 2021 due to COVID restrictions), working with players from the inner-city of Durham. This program focuses on Durham elementary schools, however any player from Durham may join. The fall program will run each Saturday from October 15th through November 19th.

The Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League (DBYAL) has enriched the lives of youth for more than twenty five years. Through partnerships with churches, schools, and other youth recreation organizations, DBYAL provides recreational baseball and soccer at no cost to youngsters in the City of Durham. The DBYAL was established in 1993 through the Durham Bulls to provide free baseball instruction and games to players from inner-city Durham. DPL Teams Find Success at WAGS Tournament

2010 - 2006 DPL Teams Travel to Northern Virginia

The 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006 girls traveled to Northern Virginia to participate in the prestigious WAGS Rael Vodicka Tournament over Columbus Day weekend. The girls found quite a lot of success over the weekend posting 11 wins, 3 losses, and 2 ties. The 2010G DPL team lost in the finals 0-1 to Columbus United (OH). What a great weekend for all involved!

Diego Walsh (former MLS Player) added to MLS NEXT Staff

Will assist the MLS NEXT teams

Diego Walsh, a former MLS player with the Columbus Crew and Kansas City Wizards, will be joining the club to assist with the boys MLS NEXT Teams. He grew up in Brazil playing in the youth system of Santos FC. Walsh played collegiately for SMU (D1) in Dallas, Texas. He is a former Men's Assistant Coach at Grand Canyon University (D1) and Phoenix College (JUCO). He also worked with Real Salt Lake AZ for the past 6 years as a staff coach. Walsh currently holds his USSF "B" license, as well as his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and FIFA Level 1 Futsal. Welcome to the club Diego!

Glenn Clarke Hired by Duke Sports Med to work with our Sports Performance Program

D. Glenn Clarke (PT, DPT, CSCS) joins Duke Sports Medicine as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and will be one of the key staffers working with Triangle United and our Sports Performance program. Glenn comes to Duke from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a strength and conditioning coach. Prior to that, Glenn was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Chicago. He is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Glenn is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and will be working with our MLS NEXT and DPL programs. He began working with the players on Monday, September 26th. Welcome to the club Glenn!

TU Hires Sam Thomas to Oversee NPL/Assist 13-19 Boys

Triangle United has hired Sam Thomas (current 2007 Boys coach) to a full-time position with the club. Sam will oversee the NPL Boys Program, as well as assist with the 13-19 Boys teams. He will also coach within our MLS NEXT program and be involved with our Elite Technical Program.

Sam has been a Men's Assistant Coach at Anderson University (SC) as well as an Assistant Technical Director with Impact Indiana SC (IN). We are excited to have Sam on board.

13U-19U Begin 2nd Year in DPL

The 13U(2010) - 19U (2004) Girls Begin 2nd year in DPL

Triangle United will begin their 2nd year in the DPL for our top 13U-19U teams. During our first year in the league, our 2007 Girls advanced to the National Championships in Dallas, TX. Although they did not advance to the title game, they went 2-0-1 and did not advance due to goal difference.

We are looking forward to another great year in the league as our teams begin their quest to qualify to the DPL National Championships in June, 2023.

MLS NEXT Announces Strategic Expansion for the 2022-23 Season

Eight New Clubs Display a Combination of Historic Achievement, Increased Access and Ambitious Growth Potential

NEW YORK (Tuesday, May 3, 2022) – MLS NEXT today announced the class of eight newly-admitted MLS NEXT clubs as part of the league’s strategic expansion ahead of the 2022-23 season. These new member clubs combine traditionally strong programs, expansion into underserved markets and an increased presence in talent hotbeds across the United States.

Two clubs – Sacramento United and FC Golden State Force, both in the talent-rich state of California – will provide a full player pathway for MLS NEXT prospects, competing in all levels of MLS NEXT competition ranging from U13 to U19 play.

The full list of the eight newly-added clubs include:

· ALBION SC Merced , Merced, CA (U13, U14)

· FA Euro New York , Brooklyn, NY (U13, U14)

· FC Golden State Force , Pomona, CA (Full pathway)

· RSL AZ Mesa , Mesa, AZ (U13, U14)

· San Francisco Seals , San Francisco, CA (U13, U14)

· SoCal Reds FC , Irvine, CA (U13, U14)

· Triangle United Soccer , Chapel Hill, NC (U13, U14, U16, U19)

“As MLS NEXT further cements its position as the premier youth development league in North America, we are continuously evaluating opportunities to add to our rich talent pool,” said MLS Vice President, Player and Youth Development Fred Lipka. “Through an extensive review process, we identified eight clubs who best embodied our goals at MLS NEXT, including providing access to historically underserved areas of the United States, expanding our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and reducing the financial burden for the highest potential players in our country. We are excited for these clubs to compete in MLS NEXT and to further enhance our elite player pathway throughout North America.”

Clubs were evaluated on several key factors including the implementation of a defined soccer philosophy, quality of coaching staff, a record of top player production and professionalism of daily environment. Also of vital importance is the club’s ability to provide low or no-cost options for players to participate on MLS NEXT teams, creating opportunities for a more inclusive player pool and promoting and embodying the diversity, equity, and inclusion values of MLS NEXT.

MLS NEXT welcomes a pair of historic clubs in San Francisco Seals and ALBION SC Merced. San Francisco Seals was founded in 1981 as a local, recreational team, but has since become one of the most storied youth programs in the country. Fifteen former Seals youth players have gone on to compete for the United States national teams across various age levels and 43 players have competed for professional teams around the world, including former MLS standouts C.J. Brown and Calen Carr. Located in the San Joaquin Valley between San Jose and Fresno, ALBION SC Merced has been serving its soccer community for more than 30 years and has developed both boys and girls from youth to professional.

Representing the New York City area, FA Euro NY will also be joining MLS NEXT for the 2022-23 season. FA Euro NY is the first MLS NEXT club located in Brooklyn, NY, and has consistently developed and nurtured elite young players since its inception in 2013, as alumni of this program are now competing in the top professional leagues around the world. MLS NEXT has also selected clubs that are able to increase access for previously underserved player pools. RSL Arizona Mesa, located southeast of Phoenix, brings a strong presence to the Southwest region, and Irvine, CA based SoCal Reds FC has developed its presence in the talent hotbed that is Orange County in Southern California. Finally, Triangle United Soccer, residing in Chapel Hill, NC, continues MLS’ push into the Southeast, adding another MLS NEXT presence in the Research Triangle in four age divisions – U13, U14, U16 and U19.

The industry leading partnership between adidas and Major League Soccer continues to drive the evolution of player development. adidas will provide the official match ball for all MLS NEXT matches and partners with MLS in advancing the game in North America and creating an atmosphere that supports these young players on the professional pathway.
